Experience 12: Largest gathering of whistle-blowers in Africa.
Convened and hosted by Pastor Paul Adefarasin, The Experience is an Interdenominational Gospel concert that features some of the best-known musical talents of our time.
The Event, which debuted in December 2006 with over 70,000 persons in attendance rapidly gained momentum at its second outing with a quantum leap in attendance of well over 700,000 people.
The Experience has now become known as the largest musical concert in Africa.
According to biblical records, each generation had instrument of victory peculiar to them. While Trumpet did it for Joshua’s generation and harps did it for David’s, whistles did it at Paul Adefarasin’s ‘The Experience 12’.
Naturally, one would think the association of whistle-blowers in Africa congregated at the twelfth edition of the just concluded ‘The Experience’ held on Friday, December 1, at the expansive open-ground of the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, south-west Nigeria.
However, unlike the familiar whistle-blowers, this herd of whistle-blowers weren’t concerned about exposing persons culpable of graft; instead, they were occupied with expressing sweet overflowing thanks to their Maker through the blowing of whistles.
Worshippers blowing whistles last night at The Experience 12
For any first-timer at the annual feast of praises, worship, impartation and transformation night, being confronted with whistles is a strange phenomenon. Just like a badge of honour or gate pass, eight out of every ten attendees had whistles dangling on their necks, slapping their chests.
Every excitement was expressed with a long wheeze of the whistle. The sounds came together as though a rehearsed note. It cut through the over five hundred thousand worshippers, sometimes deafeningly harmonious and at other times mildly disturbing.
Asked why she came in with a whistle, one of the worshippers who gave her name simply as Nike said: “I want to shout to the Lord but I am afraid my voice would break, so, instead, I do my shouting by blowing the whistle. That way, I can shout from now till day break without my voice damaging.”
From experience, the culture of whistle-blowing is not new at ‘The Experience’. But this year’s phenomenon was unusually overwhelming. Every artiste was welcome with the whistle, cheered with the whistle, and celebrated off the stage with the whistle. Some of those were the gospel maestro, Don Moen, the spicy Chioma Jesus, Nathaniel Bassey of the Hallelujah Challenge fame and a host of others.
Convened by Pastor Paul Adefarasin and hosted by House on the Rock church, ‘The Experience’ is an annual one-night gathering of Christians across denominations coming together with a single motive of praising and worshipping their Lord.
